Workplace health and safety The health of employees is very important to TNT. That is why we promote a healthy working atmosphere and thus the well-being of our employees. Health days at many German locations offer them specific assistance in maintaining and promoting health and well-being. Our in-house health and safety guidelines are based on the international OHSAS 18001 standard. As part of a globally operating group, we in Germany have committed ourselves to achieving and maintaining this standard as a minimum for external certifications. Safety on the road At TNT, the "Safe vehicle, safe driver, safe journey" approach applies, in which we identify and implement effective risk reduction measures in the field of road transport. TNT pays particular attention to the continuous improvement of safety in these areas (vehicle, driver and drive), as well as to the area of ​​subcontractor management. Our main challenge in reducing road accidents is to consistently implement this approach (especially in less developed countries) and to ensure that our subcontractors also follow appropriate standards in their work. As far as relevant, we are committed to improving the quality of public infrastructure - another critical factor in improving safety on the road. The primary goal that TNT pursues as part of its overarching safety policy is to reduce accidents with downtime (so-called lost time accidents). environment The efficient use of energy and carbon emissions is our top priority. Our efforts to reduce environmental pollution focus on four areas: Operations: Improvement of CO² efficiency and air quality through optimization measures in our buildings and vehicles Customers: Provision of CO²-neutral shipping as well as valuable information on the subject that help reduce emissions Employees: Sensitization of our employees and subcontractors to environmentally relevant topics and training in the field of environmental management Freight carrier: stopping to use the latest technology and vehicles TNT's environmental management system is used to plan, implement, monitor, control and improve the environmental impact of our business activities. We incorporate the requirements of environmental protection into our investment processes as well as into our procurement control procedures. The environmental impact of our fleet and our infrastructure is monitored at all critical points (planning, acquisition and operation). In addition, we provide our subcontractors and suppliers with guidelines by means of which we ensure that our environmental requirements are also met at this level. Environmental performance is measured, among other things, in absolute CO² emissions. In 2014, TNT and its subcontractors' total CO² emissions were 2,915 kilotons (2013: 2,845 kilotons). In Germany, our environmental management system is based on the international ISO 14001 standard. In order to maintain it, we are regularly certified by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA). society TNT has been assuming social responsibility in a wide variety of areas in Germany for years. Since October 2010, TNT has been the exclusive logistics partner of the Bundesverband Deutsche Tafel eV, the umbrella organization for more than 900 local food banks in Germany.
