17 million people in Germany suffer from rheumatism. "Moving more together" is the guiding principle of the German Rheuma League, the largest German self-help organization in the health sector.
Since it was founded in 1970, the number of members has increased to around 300,000. Nationwide, people suffering from rheumatism, relatives, therapists, doctors as well as full-time and voluntary helpers are involved in a large community. The heart of the association are the volunteers. Around 10,000 volunteers are involved in more than a thousand groups.
